Served in a company raised to protect the settlers of PA in Wyoming massacre.

Served in the Rev War, Priv. 5th Co., 24th Reg, Westmoreland Militia, Lt. Col. Zebulon Butler, Col. Nathan Deneson commanding.

During the Battle of Wyoming, 3 Jul 1778, Rufus Bennet, exhausted, grasped the tail of Col. Butler's horse. They were pursued by a band of savages, one of whom was gaining on Bennet. The commotion aroused Richard Inman, who, having indulged in to o much whiskey, had dropped out of the line earlier and had been resting. Inman raised his rifle, and with deadly accuracy, brought the foremost Indian down. The other pursuers, daunted by Inman's marksmanship, turned about in their tracks and Col . Butler and party made their way unmolested to Forty Fort.
